Embrace Change

From reading various comments of the game community on blogs, news sites, and message boards across the internet, I have been sensing an unquantifiable sort of reactionary fear to the many tides of change that are currently happening in the game industry.

On the one hand gamers are hungering for change from the current norms. They want new games, innovative systems, new genres.

On the other hand, they are resistant to the many changes the industry is going through to enter the next age of gaming. Convergence, episodic gaming, outsourcing, digital distribution – while these are inevitabilities if you talk to almost anyone inside the industry, consumers are extremely resistant to changing the way game.

All I can say is this – change is coming, whether you like it or not. Change is good. Change becomes necessary when the status quo isn’t working, and it always brings unintended consequences that you may not like. But in all, for something to truly change, it has to offer a better solution than what we had before.

So relax!
