AGC Day 3

Ahh, it came and went so quickly.

The most interesting things I heard on day 3:

1. While many are resistant to brands entering game worlds, users have actually been very receptive to brands entering social worlds (like Habbo Hotel) and they sometimes even bring their favorite brands in themselves (Betsy Book, Makena Technologies).

2. It’s good for a new game company to have a finance guy (Paul Kim, GoPets Ltd.)

3. Digital distribution will not cannibalize retail sales – the more channels, the better (DD Revolution panel).

4. Micropayments don’t have to turn in to “how can we rip off the player?” – it can the market more efficient (David Edery, MIT/XBLA). The best example of this from the past that I can think of is pokemon red and blue – players only pay for the amount of content that they want.
