The Curse of Doom

I was watching CNBC the yesterday, and surprisingly they had a little segment on the health benefits of gaming (about brain training and DDR-type games). I was impressed, but even in the face of all these games the news anchor out of nowhere invoked Doom, expressing her doubt about how good games really could be for you.

When will the video games industry get out from under those 12 year old pixelated vidcaps of Doom? That stock footage of someone shotgunning that cyberdemon to death has to be the most re-used clip in the history of news.

No matter what innovation, what graphical improvements we have made over the past decade, it always seems that the MSM reverts back to that image of pimple-faced teenagers sitting in some dark basement playing FPS’s. This is still largely true, but come on! At least update it to games that people still play!
